Antoine Griezmann is a French footballer who has represented his country at the international level. He is a striker for Atletico Madrid, a Spanish club. He also plays for the French National Team at the same position. He was born in Macon, France, on March 21, 1991.
Background
Griezmann was born in Germany to a German father and a Portuguese mother. Griezmann began his career as a child with UF Macon, his hometown club. During his tenure with the club, he went on trial with a number of professional clubs. However, due to his small stature and physique, he was unable to get a position. He played a friendly match against Paris Saint-Germain while on trial with Montpellier in 2005. He was able to impress a number of teams as a result of his performance, and he was offered a one-week trial at San Sebastian.
Debut
In 2009, he made his Real Sociedad debut during the club’s pre-season campaign. He has five goals in four appearances this season. On September 2, 2009, he made his competitive debut for the club in a Copa del Ray encounter against Rayo Vallecano. He made his competitive debut for Atletico Madrid on August 19, 2014, in the opening leg of the 2014 Supercopa de Espana. Rise to glory
Griezmann soon established himself as a regular part of the Real Sociedad. He played in the majority of the season’s matches after his debut. He received interest from Ligue 1 clubs Lyon, Saint Etienne, and Auxerre when he signed a five-year deal with the club. As he began scoring goals on a regular basis, he became one of the team’s most notable members.
Low points
Griezmann went through a nine-match drought in late 2010 when he failed to register a goal. He was scoreless for nine games in a row. The fact that he was scoring goals so often added to the importance of this time.
Records and achievements
Griezmann became the first French player to score 100 goals in a single Spanish Top-Division season in 2015. In that season, he scored 22 goals. He was the only Atletico player on the LFP Team of the Year, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. He came in third place in the 2016 Ballon d’Or and also in the Best FIFA Men’s Player award. In 2016, he was named the Best Player in La Liga. He was also named French Player of the Year in 2016 and has a long list of other accolades.
