AUS vs ENG: Was About Giving Cameron Green More Opportunity – Aaron Finch Reveals Reason Behind Batting At No.4

Australia National Cricket Team T20I captain Aaron Finch has revealed the real reason behind switching his batting position and playing at No.4  in the last few T20I games.

The veteran opener Finch shifted to No.4 ahead of the recently concluded two-match T20I series against West Indies National Cricket. Also, in the first T20I of the three-match series against the England National Cricket Team at the Perth Stadium, he played at the No.4.

Finch, who recently retired from ODI cricket, has registered scores of 58, 15 and 12 in his three games while batting at No.4.

Speaking to reporters after the first T20I against Jos Buttler-led England, the Australian World Cup-winning captain Aaron Finch asserted that he will be opening the innings with David Warner in the next two games against England.

“I’ll go back to the top next game, which was always the plan,” Finch said.

Finch further revealed that he batted at No.4 in the recent T20I games because they wanted to try out new things in the lead-up to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 and give the young all-rounder Cameron Green a few opportunities to play as an opener after his outstanding performances with the bat at the top-order in the T20I series against India.

“It was just about giving Greeny more opportunity at the top and trying things … in case he had to be called into the (World Cup) squad,” he said.

Notably, the 23-year-old all-rounder Green is not a part of Australia’s World Cup squad. However, he is likely to get called up if Marcus Stoinis or Mitchell Marsh are unfit or unavailable due to any reason.

The Super 12 round will commence on October 22 and the final is set to take place on November 13 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The defending champions Australia have been placed in the Group 1 of the tournament along with England, New Zealand and Afghanistan.
