Bangladesh and Pakistan go head to head in the first T20I in Christchurch in the first New Zealand T20I Tri-Series 2022. New Zealand is the third team to compete in this series. This is the final assignment for all three teams before they head off to the T20 World Cup in Australia.
Shakib Al Hasan is back in the side for the series. He will join the side a day before the first match as per reports in The Daily Star. Nurul Hasan attended the trophy unveiling ceremony in his absence.
Pakistan are heading into this series after losing the bilateral T20I series against England at home. They lost the series 4-3 after leading the series 3-2 at one point. The series has made former Pakistan cricketers criticise the team heading into the mega event in Australia.
“This series was vital for us. We need to improve in the shortest format. I also mentioned at the toss, that we have a good bowling attack. Haris is bowling well, and he is improving everyday. I think entire Pakistan was waiting for this, even we were happy to host England” said Babar Azam in the post-match presentation after the final T20I.
Meanwhile, in the Bangladesh camp, there is a huge air of expectation for Shakib’s return to the side. He missed the series against UAE that his side won 2-0. The Bangladesh T20I skipper has already left for the USA from the Caribbean after the CPL as per reports. He is also expected to bat at number four in the series as per The team’s National Selector Habibul Bashar.
“We are discussing it (whether he will bat at three or not). In the CPL he batted at four and played well. I think on Australian wickets he will make necessary adjustment (even if he is moved to four). It’s not like he (Shakib) is very rigid as far as his batting order is concerned. He is very flexible and he doesn’t have any problem batting at three or four when we spoke with him about his place in the batting order” Habibul Bashar, a member of the selection panel, told Cricbuzz.
