Dawid Malan Backs Andrew Strauss Review, Geoffrey Boycott Fears “Death Of County Cricket”

Former England captain Andrew Strauss has taken England’s cricket by storm. The left-handed batter has reduced the number of county matches in his high-performance review. He was working on this review since January 2022 after the disastrous performance by England Cricket Team in Ashes 2021-22.

We have seen that ECB is someone who prioritizes Red ball Cricket a lot and especially since it’s a domestic circuit. But in a recent couple of years; the board’s view has drastically changed as they started their new Hundred tournament.

During the 2021 England vs India Test Series, ECB prioritized the T20 Blast & Hundred tournament which was quite shocking as cricketers need to be in the frame of County Cricket.

Dawid Malan On Andrew Strauss Review:

Dawid Malan was seen interacting with reporters ahead of the 6th T20I Match against Pakistan and was asked about ECB’s new proposed domestic structure.

Cricket is now a 12-months-a-year game. It’s about creating a schedule that keeps players wanting to play all formats,” said Malan.

If you’re a player that is trying to get better at your game, there’s no time to work on your game and you’re burning yourself out. We can’t argue that the county system is working if we’ve only been number one in the world for such a short period,” he concluded.

Geoffrey Boycott’s Contrasting Views on Andrew Strauss’s Review

The Legendary batter has always had a reputation of being fearless and being spot on with his views. He wrote in the Daily Telegraph about the new structure.

The problem is the ECB is run by corporate suits who only look at balance sheets. They see county cricket as losing money and, like any commodity, if it doesn’t make money it has to go,” Boycott said.

“It is too simple to say cut down the amount of four-day matches to give players more rest and make sure the matches are more competitive. I have never seen sportsmen and women improve sitting on their arse!.

“I do understand you have to adapt or die. But if the counties adopt the Strauss report with fewer matches then it is the end for our red ball game,” he concluded.
