With 19.45 crores left over, Delhi Capitals (DC) entered the IPL 2023 auction hoping to fill seven spots. After IPL 2022, the team released four players and kept 20 players. After losing to the Mumbai Indians in their last league game, the Caps placed fifth in the points standings and were eliminated from the playoffs. They are grouped with KKR, MI, LSG, and RR in Group A.
The Delhi Capitals did a great job of keeping the team’s core together. Among their international experts, they kept David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Rovman Powell, Anrich Nortje, and Mustafizur Rahman.
Their first Indian retainer was skipper Rishabh Pant. In yet another IPL season, he will serve as team captain. The team also kept Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Chetan Sakariya, and Prithvi Shaw in addition to him. In addition, they kept a few uncapped players like Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Yash Dhull, and Lalit Yadav.
Nevertheless, Pant has been forced to withdraw from the IPL 2023 due to an unlucky injury, and the management is looking for a replacement. Before the season begins, the team must also do the difficult task of selecting a new captain.
The IPL 2023 mini-auction registered 991 players, including 714 Indians and 277 foreigners. Only days before the sale, the BCCI reduced the list from 991 to 405 though. Ten teams initially shortlisted 369 players, but 36 more players were later requested and were included in the final list.
