Euro 2020 Prediction : On the path to Euro 2021, top-ranked Belgium is at a disadvantage

Belgium will be at a disadvantage at the European Championship because they will not be able to play any home games, according to defender Thomas Vermaelen.
Brussels was one of the 13 initial locations chosen to host games for Euro 2021, which begins on Friday, but was removed from the list by UEFA in 2017 after multiple delays to a planned new Eurostadium.

It implies that, in contrast to other contenders such as England, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain, if the top team in the FIFA rankings goes on to win a major trophy for the first time, all of their matches will be played on foreign soil.
Nine of the 24 teams competing in Euro 2021 will play in front of their home crowd.

Belgium, on the other hand, has a long journey ahead of them in the first round, with a match against Russia on Saturday in St Petersburg, a match against Denmark in Copenhagen on June 17, and a match against Finland in St Petersburg on June 17.
“Having to play away games and travel is undoubtedly a disadvantage,” Vermaelen said during a press conference.

“We’d rather play games at home. The fact that you do not have to travel would be a plus. The countries we compete against have home games. It’s a pity for us, but we have no choice except to accept the situation as it is.”
Belgium will fly to St Petersburg on the eve of their first game and return to their camp in Tubize, around 25 kilometres south of Brussels, the next day. After three days at home, they will go to Copenhagen for their second group game, and then on to St Petersburg.

Belgium will play their last 16 encounter in Seville if they win their group, but they may prefer to finish second because it will be a far shorter travel to Amsterdam.
