In 2021, the Canadian Premier League plans to play a full season, with games starting on June 26 in Winnipeg.

Before July 24, IG Field, the home of the CPL’s Valour FC, will host 32 games, with each of the eight clubs playing eight games.

The league intends to send clubs back to their home markets when the Winnipeg part of the 2021 schedule is completed.

Following the news on onesoccer.ca Saturday evening, CPL commissioner David Clanachan stated, “I want to be back in our home markets playing in front of fans and supporters as soon as possible.”

“I believe you can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. It’s still a long way off, but I believe we’ll be able to see it,” he continued.

There will be no fans at any Winnipeg games until July 24.

On Saturday, June 26, FC Edmonton will face Atletico Ottawa, while Pacific FC will face HFX Wanderers FC at IG Field. The next day, CPL reigning champion Forge FC takes on Valour FC, followed by Cavalry FC taking on York United FC to round up the first weekend.

He claimed the proposals came from cities across the United States, Europe, the Caribbean, and five Canadian provinces.

He explained, “We wanted to stay here.”

“We felt it was necessary to do so for our followers and supporters. But also, forgive the metaphor, to give Canada a shot in the arm.”

The whole Winnipeg schedule will be unveiled on Wednesday, with the remaining games to be announced at a later date.
