Football Match Prediction : In Ligue 1, second-placed Lens was defeated by Montpellier.

Second-placed RC Lens fell 1-0 at Montpellier on Sunday, losing distance on Ligue 1 leaders Paris St Germain.
English forward Stephy Mavididi scored for the hosts early in the second half, moving his club up to 13th with 13 points from 10 games.
Lens has 18 points and is nine points behind PSG. However, they are in danger of being surpassed by third-placed Nice, who are two points behind after a 1-0 loss at Troyes but have a game in hand.

Olympique de Marseille, who have two games in hand on Lens, will close the margin to one point if they beat Lorient at home later on Sunday.

Montpellier started brightly and came within a whisker of opening the score in the eighth minute when Valere Germain’s shot smacked against Jean-Louis Leca’s post.

Lens had their greatest chance in the 28th minute through Jonathan Clauss, but Jonas Omlin stopped the wingback’s free kick well.

Montpellier’s dominance was rewarded three minutes into the second half when Mavididi beat Leca with a low shot after being set up by Teji Savanier.

The visitors applied pressure but were unable to execute their normal eye-catching fast passing style and failed to threaten.

Montpellier were on the verge of extending their lead when Leca saved another Germain shot in the 64th minute.

Lens gained some optimism when Jordan Ferri was sent out in the 86th minute after receiving a second yellow card for tugging Seko Fofana’s shirt, but their efforts proved futile.
