Chennaiyin FC (CFC) has recruited Polish striker Lukasz Gikiewicz on a one-year deal ahead of the 2018 season in the Indian Super League (ISL). Marina Machans has now signed their fifth foreign player.
Lukasz, who has made over 200 club games and has 49 goals and 21 assists to his name, will be looking to make an impression in his first season in India’s top flight.
“This season, we are looking forward to Lukasz boosting our attack and supplying much-needed goals. CFC co-owner Vita Dani commented, “This is a really fantastic signing for us.”
Lukasz has also performed in Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, and Bahrain, among other Asian countries. While playing for Al-Faisaly Amman, he was the top scorer in the Jordanian Pro League in 2017-18.
“I am overjoyed to be a part of the club. My goal is to assist the squad in winning a third ISL title as soon as possible. The fans, as well as the club that has previously won the league twice, deserve it,” Lukasz remarked.
Lukasz has made a total of 12 appearances in two of the world’s most prestigious club competitions, the Europa League and the Champions League. During his time at Slask Wroclow in Poland, he was instrumental in the club’s second league triumph in 2011-12 and also helped them win the Polish Super Cup the following year.
“Lukasz is a team player with a fantastic personality and a lot of experience. CFC head coach Bozidar Bandovic said, “I feel he will help the squad in many facets, notably with goals.”
Lukasz, now 33, began his professional career 13 years ago with Olimpia Elblag in Poland. He has previously played in Cyprus, Bulgaria, and Romania.
