“I Am Sure The BCCI Is Prioritising The Next ODI World Cup And Will Keep These Players In The Mix” – Mithali Raj After Women’s U19 T20 World Cup Win

Former skipper Mithali Raj heaped praise on the Indian women’s U19 team for winning the trophy in the inaugural event of the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa. The veteran batter believes that at least three to four members will graduate to the senior level and potentially play a crucial role in the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup at home in 2025.

India Women U19 bowlers bundled out England Women U19 for just 68 runs in 17.1 overs. Pacer Titas bowled a brilliant spell in the final, taking two wickets and conceding just 6 runs in his 4 overs quota. Leg-spinner Parshavi Chopra and off-break bowler Archana Devi also bowled well and picked up two wickets each. Team India chased down the target with six overs to spare.

Playing Domestic Cricket Is Very Important – Mithali Raj

Mithali Raj was invited by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to interact with the cricketers ahead of the inaugural edition. She believes that women’s cricket has finally received a platform from which the players may be developed or fast-tracked for the future.

She went on to say that the entire winning team should compete in the domestic circuit, while the three or four players who are ready for the next level can be gradually drafted into the national team.

“Playing domestic cricket is very important for them and should not be neglected. WPL will also get them the required exposure. The next ODI World Cup is at home and we have not won a global event yet at the senior level. I am sure the BCCI is prioritising that and will keep these players in the mix,” Mithali Raj said.

Mithali Raj is the only female cricketer to have competed in six World Cups. She led the team with 14 wins, 8 losses, and one no-result in 24 World Cup matches. She guided the Indian team to the 50-over World Cup final in England in 2018, but they lost to the hosts.
