“I Have Tried To Sort Out The Rift Between Shakib Al Hasan And Tamim Iqbal”- BCB President Nazmul Hassan

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan acknowledges that a rift exists between two prominent players, Shakib Al Hasan, and Tamim Iqbal, as was widely predicted following the latter’s decision to withdraw from the Twenty20 World Cup.

Tamim Iqbal, Bangladesh’s most prolific batter across forms, has withdrawn from the T20 World Cup, just days before the tournament’s lineup is announced. Tamim stated that playing in the tournament after being gone from T20Is for a year and a half would be unfair to the young players.

There has been a lot of talk about the opener’s potential confrontation with Former head coach Russell Domingo and even captain Shakib Al Hasan since Tamim decided to make himself unavailable. But, in an interview with Cricbuzz, the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Nazmul Hassan, acknowledged rumors of a rift between Tamim and Shakib Al Hasan.

“This is not a healthy dressing room, this I can guarantee you. This thing (rift between Shakib and Tamim), it’s not that I have not tried to sort it out. I have spoken with both of them and I felt that it is not easy to settle the issues (between them) at the moment. This is my observation. Both of them have been given one message – we don’t know what is going on between you, but during a game or series that you are playing, these differences cannot come out. Both of them assured that it won’t be there during the game” Nazmul Hassan Said.

“Hathurusingha will not keep a senior if he fails to perform”: Nazmul Hassan

Nazmul Hasan, president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, is optimistic that the national team would enter the forthcoming home series against England with a healthy dressing room. The difficulties that await the returning Chandika Hathurusingha were discussed in an exclusive interview with Cricbuzz.

“I think it will be difficult. Even Domingo had problems with seniors and at one point he just gave up and if you give up then it won’t benefit us. If the coach doesn’t say anything and just lets others do whatever they do, there is no point (in keeping him) and we needed to have a change there. I didn’t want to become the president this time round because I know this time I have to take some harsh decisions like I did in my first term” Nazmul Hasan said.

“So it will be tough (with the seniors). The problem with our players is that they are not telling us anything by themselves about their future. For Hathurusingha, it will be a big challenge (both for him as well as for seniors) because I know one thing that if a senior doesn’t perform, Hathurusingha won’t keep him in the team” Nazmul Hasan Added.

The cricket community in Bangladesh reacted differently to Hathurusingha’s selection as a coach. He previously held this job for three years, from 2014 to 2017, before unexpectedly leaving for Sri Lanka duty. The new two-year contract will be his second time in this role.
