ICC T20 World Cup 2022: ‘Jos Buttler Will Definitely Look To Keep If He Is Fully Fit’- England White-ball Coach Matthew Mott

Jos Buttler will keep wickets in the T20 World Cup, according to England’s white-ball coach Matthew Mott, “if he is totally healthy.”

Jos Buttler, who is dealing with a calf injury, went to Pakistan for the team’s first historic visit in 17 years, but he was unable to participate in the seven-match T20I series. In the decisive T20I, England defeated Pakistan by 67 runs to win the series 4-3.

Jos Buttler To Keep Wickets: Matthew Mott

“If he’s (Buttler) fully fit, he’ll definitely look to keep,” Mott was quoted as saying.

“He’s obviously done that for a while; he had the opportunity in The Hundred to see a different side of it.”

Mott, who led Australia to victory in the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2018 and 2022, said that Moeen Ali and Ben Stokes can fill Jos Buttler’s leadership shoes.

“He (Buttler) didn’t see a great advantage from there, and I think when you’ve got the likes of Mo and Stokes in the field, he can offload a little bit of that leadership.

“He feels that’s the best view for him on the ground and the one he’s most accustomed to. That’s what he’s going to do at the start of the tournament.”

Asked about Buttler’s physical condition, Mott responded: “Jos has been conservative; he was chomping at the bit at the back-end here, but the risk-reward wasn’t quite there. He’s going to play a pivotal role in the World Cup. We’re pretty confident with where we’re at.”

Matthew Mott Gives Update On Liam Livingstone

The white-ball coach for England also gave an update on Liam Livingstone, saying: “Liam is tracking well. He’ll be fine he’s just got to get some miles in the legs, and he should be right for the start when we get out there.”

Prior to the commencement of the T20 World Cup in Australia, Livingstone is anticipated to join the England team. During the trip of Pakistan, Livingstone, who is sidelined due to an ankle ailment, stayed in England.

Before facing Afghanistan on October 22 to kick off their World Cup campaign, England will play Australia in a three-match T20I series.
