ICC T20 World Cup 2022: Lance Klusener Resigns As Zimbabwe Batting Coach Ahead Of ICC T20 World Cup 2022

Zimbabwe Cricket Team has dealt a massive blow with the resignation of Lance Klusener. Finding a batting coach in the 11th hour is quite tough as T20 World Cup 2022 is just two weeks away. Zimbabwe is placed in a dangerous group that consists of the West Indies, Zimbabwe and Ireland where winning won’t be easy.

Klusener joined Zimbabwe Setup in March 2022 and he did quite a good job. The all-rounder helped Zimbabwe in making it to the T20 World Cup 2022. He has served two stints as the batting coach in 2016 and 2018 as he knew how to help Zimbabwe batters.

Zimbabwe Managing Director givemore Makoni made an interesting statement on Klusener, “We are grateful to Lance for everything he has contributed during his time with us, including helping us to qualify for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 which gets underway in Australia in a few days. Unfortunately, due to his pressing commitments elsewhere, he could not continue with us on a full-time basis and we agreed it was in the best interests of both parties to terminate his contract. We wish him the best as he pursues new endeavours.”

Tough Road Ahead for Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe needs to make sure that they are not panicking with Klusener’s departure. The team has shown that they can give tough competition to big teams on the day. It has been a tough journey for the team. Head Coach Dave Houghton will have to make sure that the team shows character irrespective of the result.
