Michael Hussey, the former Australian cricketer, has advised the Australian national team to take inspiration from Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, to improve their batting performance in the ongoing Test series. Hussey, aged 47, has praised Rohit’s exceptional batting against spin in the series so far.
Rohit’s impressive century in the first innings of the opening Test in Nagpur helped India take a substantial lead of 223 runs. In the subsequent Test in Delhi, he scored 32 runs in the first innings and played a quickfire knock of 31 runs in the second innings to lead his team to victory.

The Australian batters have faced criticism for their excessive use of sweep shots, particularly after their performance in the second innings of the Delhi Test.
During the innings, four Australian batsmen, namely Steve Smith, Alex Carey, Pat Cummins, and Matthew Kuhnemann, lost their wickets while attempting to play the sweep shot. As a result, Australia’s innings ended at a meagre total of 113, after being in a decent position of 61-1 earlier.
Australian Batters Need To Figure Out How To Play To Their Strengths
According to Michael Hussey’s advice, Australian batsmen should comprehend their responsibilities and rely on their strengths instead of attempting to score runs through unconventional means.

“The focus of the Australian batsmen should be on gauging how best each one of them can score runs. Each one has a different method of batting. So some should look to hit the boundaries and be more aggressive, while some should look to play the anchor role. Batsmen need to focus on their strengths and the strokes that yield them runs instead of everyone trying one particular shot.”
“Obviously, the Australians can take a leaf out of Rohit Sharma’s book and have a look at the way he has batted so far. The way Rohit has gone about his job is certainly a good way to tackle spin and score runs in such conditions, ” Michael Hussey said.
With the third Test against India scheduled to begin on March 1 in Indore, Australia will be eager to make a comeback in the series after losing the first two matches.
