IND vs AUS: “We’ve Been Matching India At Different Times” – Glenn Maxwell Feels Australians Were Outstanding Barring One Session In Delhi

The Star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell believes that the Australian players performed well in Indian conditions, barring one session in Delhi on Day 3. The Pat Cummins-led team lost to India in the first two Test matches of the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT). The hosts won two tests in Nagpur and Delhi, taking a 2-0 lead in the four-match series.

The visitors took a one-run lead in the first innings of the second Test in Delhi. They were at 61 at the start of Day 3, but they lost their nine wickets for 52 runs. The Aussies missed the slight advantage as they were bowled out for just 113 runs. Spin twins Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin picked up all 10 wickets.

They’ve Shown A Lot Of Fight – Glenn Maxwell

In conversation with Sydney Morning Herald, Glenn Maxwell said that the Australian team has been outstanding against India and that they have shown fight in the most difficult conditions.

“I think they’ve showed a lot of fight. Bar that one session I thought they were outstanding. It’s bloody difficult over there – it’s not an easy place to play, it’s so foreign for us.”

“But I feel like, apart from a couple of little moments, we’ve been in the fight, we’ve been matching India at different times and they’ve shown a lot of fight,” he was quoted as saying by the Sydney Morning Herald.

We Were Well Ahead In The Game – Glenn Maxwell

Maxwell believes that if the Australians can hold out during crucial moments in the game, they can compete with the Indians. Maxwell stated that they were still ahead of the Indians in the game before Day 3.

“It’s just sticking it out for a little bit longer and I’m sure that’ll be the message, to keep trying to stay up with India and take a hold of those key moments in the game. At the start of day three [in Delhi] I thought we were well ahead in the game, and to be ahead of India at any stage of a Test match over there is a sign we’re doing the right things, it’s just doing it for a little bit longer,” he said.

Following the Test series, India will host three ODIs, with the first match starting in Mumbai on March 17. The remaining matches will be played in Visakhapatnam (March 19) and Chennai (March 22), respectively. After missing the Test series, the explosive batter will be part of the limited overs squad.
