IND vs PAK: Shaheen Shah Afridi Will Not Have Any Problem On His Return – Former Pakistan All-rounder Azhar Mahmood

India will take on arch-rivals Pakistan in their opening encounter of the ICC T20 World Cup at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne, on Sunday, October 23. The mother of all battles between the two teams will be renewed after last month’s Asia Cup thrillers. The Babar Azam-led team is evenly matched against the Rohit Sharma-led team.

For a long time, India had the upper hand against Pakistan in World Cups, and last year, Pakistan broke the losing streak against India as the Men in Green won by 10 wickets.

Shaheen Afridi, who was the main reason behind Pakistan’s victory against India in the World Cup held in the UAE last year, has been ruled out of the recent Asia Cup due to a knee injury. He is recovering from an injury and preparing to participate in the World Cup. On the other hand, Indian star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the Asia Cup and India suffered a major setback due to his last-minute injury ahead of the World Cup.

Pakistan’s Bowling Is Strong, But The Batting Needs To Improve – Azhar Mahmood

Former Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood believes that the left-arm fast bowler getting fit in time will give him a huge confidence boost for the match against India. He said Jasprit Bumrah’s absence and Shaheen Afridi’s comeback will be decisive for the India-Pakistan T20 World Cup, which will be another big blow for India.

“Whenever there is an India vs Pakistan game, there is bound to be excitement. Pakistan’s bowling is strong but the batting needs to improve. India have endured a big loss as they are already without Bumrah. And upar se agar Shaheen fit ho jata hai aur khelta hai (if Shaheen Shah Afridi regains fitness and plays), our pace attack will bolster further.

“However, this time around, the wickets in Dubai were different. In Australia, the ball will come on to the bat better.

“It will be a good game, and given how mentally well Pakistan have been against India in recent games, I hope they will come out victorious again,” Mahmood told Cricket Pakistan.

Shaheen Shah Afridi Won’t Have Any Problem On His Return – Azhar Mahmood

Mahmood believes that whenever Shaheen returns, he will return to full steam and with the same intensity despite concerns over his impact. PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja recently gave a massive update on Shaheen’s fitness and availability for the India game. Raja said the left-arm pacer feels he will be “110 per cent be match ready” for the match against India.

“Shaheen Shah Afridi will not have any problem on his return to the team. The pacer also started bowling after recovering from injury, and if he completes his rehabilitation process properly, he will not have any problem.

“Hopefully, Shaheen will be able to bowl well like before. All Pakistanis, including me, are praying for him,” the former Pakistan bowling coach added.
