IND vs SA: Temba Bavuma Has Done An Excellent Job: Keshav Maharaj Lauds South Africa’s Captain After Team’s Victory Over India

Temba Bavuma received praise from South Africa bowler Keshav Maharaj as the Proteas defeated India by 9 runs in a first ODI that was reduced to a 40-over game for each side due to rain on Thursday in Lucknow.

Sanju Samson, an Indian batsman, played one of the best innings of his international career on Thursday at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow against South Africa, scoring an unbeaten 86. However, the Shikhar Dhawan-led Team India was unable to win the match.

In the post-game presentation, Keshav Maharaj said, “He (Bavuma) has done a splendid job (as a skipper) and I was just trying to pass on some information, just need some reassurance sometimes, and get the backing from everyone towards certain things.”

South Africa won thanks to Heinrich Klaasen’s unbeaten 74 off 65 balls, which included six fours and two sixes. When South Africa was 110/4, they were in some trouble, but Klaasen and David Miller put together a crucial partnership of 139 runs to give India a 250-run target to chase in 40 overs.

He continued, “I thought David (Miller) was hitting the ball stupendously and just exploded in the back end and I think that was the difference between us and the Indian side, getting that partnership towards the end. Heinrich (Klaasen) came in and absorbed (the pressure) really well.”

We are just making sure that we are doing the right things: Keshav Maharaj

Maharaj said in response to a question about the team’s performance, “We are just making sure that we are doing the right things and hopefully put in more performances going forward building towards the World Cup. We (About talking to Shamsi from mid-wicket) have our own plans and priorities. We obviously try to give Shammo good energy, but we also have a few ideas and thought processes that occasionally conflict and occasionally go in our favour.”

With 89 runs in 8 overs and one wicket, Tabraiz Shamsi was the most expensive bowler in the game.
