ROLEMidfielder

Moussa Sissoko is a French professional footballer who represents both the French National Team and Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League. He was born on August 16, 1989, in the French town of Le Blanc-Mesnil, Seine-Saint-Denis.

From his parents, he inherited Malian heritage. Sissoko is a centre midfielder who usually plays in a box-to-box style, though he can also play as a holding midfielder in a deeper role.

Because of his mobility, he has also been used on the right side of the midfield on a few occasions. He is a right-footed player who only uses his weaker foot on rare occasions.

He’s a versatile midfielder with good physical strength. For his height and job, he is rather agile and capable of contributing to team building and layoffs.

His focus, on the other hand, is severely weak, thus he frequently makes rash and aggressive challenges, giving up fouls in crucial positions and losing clear-cut chances in front of goal. He’s also mocked for making unrealistic assessments of himself and then failing to provide the expected outcomes.

He was a member of France’s team at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and the 2016 European Championship. He made his debut in the 2016 EURO final against Portugal.

Background

His father was a construction worker, so he had poor beginnings, but his potential was discovered early on, and he realised that playing football might help him achieve something huge.

As a six-year-old, he enrolled in Esperance Aulnay’s youth academy. Before returning to Esperance, he spends two years with Red Star 93. In 2003, he joined the Toulouse U-14 team. He progressed through the Toulouse youth system before making his senior debut in August 2007.

Debut

He was a mainstay in the France national team’s youth setup, representing the Les Blues at every level he was eligible for.

On the 10th of October 2009, he earned his senior debut against the Faroe Islands in a World Cup qualifying match. He was introduced in the 62nd minute of France’s 5-0 victory. With World Cup qualifying secured, he made his full debut against Austria the next week, playing the entire 90 minutes as France triumphed 3-1.

Rise to Glory

After his time with Newcastle United and the France national team, Sissoko rose to prominence in the final six games of the 2015-16 season, when he was given the captain’s armband and led Newcastle to a six-game unbeaten run against the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City, including a 5-1 thrashing of Tottenham on the final day.

On transfer deadline day, he signed a five-year contract with Tottenham for 30 million pounds.

Club Career

Sissoko has represented Toulouse, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur in professional club football.
