Namibia and Netherlands go head to head in match 5 of the ICC T20 World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday, October 18 in Geelong. Namibia defeated Sri Lanka in their first qualifier while the Netherlands went past UAE. One of the two teams will lose this match which will make the group really interesting. There are 8 teams part of the qualifier round of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. They are Sri Lanka, West Indies, Namibia, Netherlands, UAE, Scotland, Ireland, and Zimbabwe. Out of these 8 teams, only 4 will qualify for the super 12 round.
Namibia skipper Gerhard Erasmus was emotional after a famous win over Sri Lanka. The minnows scored a competitive 163/7 in their 20 overs and bowled out the Lankans for just 108 winning the game by 55 runs.
“Incredible journey, last year was a special experience for us. We’ve started a great win, but lot of work to do throughout this tournament still. It’s been a historic day for us. The opening day has been quite special but we want to kick on from here and qualify for the Super 12 stage. We understand the bigger picture as well” he said.
There are two groups in the qualifier round of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. They are Group A and Group B. In group A, there are 4 teams namely Sri Lanka, Namibia, UAE, and the Netherlands. In group B, there are 4 teams- West Indies, Zimbabwe, Scotland, and Ireland.
During the qualifier round of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, a total of 12 matches will take place. Group A teams will play one match with the other teams in the group. Similarly, Group B teams will play one each against the other teams of the group.
Since there are 4 teams in each group, each team will play 3 matches during the qualifier round. After the end of the qualifier round, the top two teams in Group A and Group B points table will qualify for the super 12 round. Two teams will join Group 1 of the super 12 round while the 2 other teams will join Group 2.
