Biography of Neymar Jr.

Footballer Neymar da Silva Santos Junior represents Brazil as a striker for the national team and Paris Saint-Germain of France. He was born on February 5, 1992, in Mogi das Cruzes, Brazil, and goes by the name Neymar. As one of the finest players in his generation, many consider Neymar to be the best.

The left-footed attacker may also play on the right, as a striker or as a second striker, and is most effective from the left flank. The Brazilian has scored 53 goals in 83 international appearances and 202 club goals in 346 club games.


Neymar Jr. got his start in the game by taking after his father, a former professional footballer who inspired him to take up the sport. Neymar has the classic characteristics of a Brazilian player, such as pace, fluid dribbling, outstanding vision, opportunity creation, and his signature feints, which he developed from playing futsal as a youngster.

He joined the Portuguesa Santista Youth Club in 1999 and quickly rose to prominence as one of the country’s most promising young musicians.


At the age of 11, Neymar made his debut for Santos FC’s junior squad. On the 7th of March 2009, at the age of 17, he made his acting debut. In his rookie season, he scored 14 goals in 48 games, earning him the ‘Best Young Player’ title for his efforts.

When Neymar was 17, he played for Brazil’s U-17 national team at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Germany in 2009. At the age of 18, he made his debut for his country against England in a friendly match on August 10, 2010. As a result, he was drafted into the team’s starting lineup and given the uniform number 11.

Brazil defeated Colombia 2-0, with Neymar netting the game-winning goal in the 28th minute after a cross from Andre Santos.

Career in a Club

Neymar made 134 appearances for Santos throughout his five-year tenure, scoring 70 goals and assisting 35 more. As well as leading the team to their first Copa Libertadores championship since 1973, he also won the FIFA Goal of the Year award and ended the 2012-13 season with a personal high of 43 goals. He was born in Lima, Peru.

In May 2013, a reported transfer agreement for 57.1 million euros brought Neymar Jr. to FC Barcelona in Spain. As a result of the transfer, Neymar’s career took off and he is now a world-class player. During one of the club’s most successful seasons, Neymar, Lionel Messi, and Luis Suarez created the legendary MSN three.

Ascend to the Pinnacle

In the 2013–14 La Liga season, Neymar made his competitive debut for FC Barcelona against Levante, replacing Alexis Sánchez in the 68th minute of Barcelona’s 7–0 victory.

He opened the scoring for the team against Atletico Madrid in the Spanish Cup first leg. The game finished in a 1-1 tie thanks to a Neymar equaliser. As part of a 6-1 victory over Celtic FC, Neymar scored a triple trick on December 11 to score his first Champions League goal.

Neymar was a member of the Brazil team in the 2013 Confederations Cup after making an excellent international debut. Neymar scored three goals in a row to earn Player of the Match honours in each of those games. The final saw Brazil overcome Spain 3-0, and he contributed to the first and second goals. After the competition, Neymar was given the Golden Ball for his efforts on the field.

Neymar scored 39 goals in the Spanish league and 10 goals in the European Cup after relocating to Spain and adapting to Barca’s style of play. He finished as the equal top scorer for UEFA with Cristiano Ronaldo and colleague Lionel Messi.

Barcelona became the first club in history to win the domestic league, cup, and international cup in the same season for the second time in a row in 2014-15.

Neymar then went on to score 31 goals and provide 27 assists in 49 games the following season. FC Barcelona celebrated a domestic double by winning the Spanish Champions Trophy for the second time in his career.

When he was considered for the FIFA Ballon d’Or award, Neymar’s performance elevated him to the ranks of top footballers, finishing behind only Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Neymar was named Brazil’s captain for the 2016 Rio Olympics, and he led his side to victory by scoring the lone goal in Brazil’s 1-1 tie with Germany. For Brazil, it was the first ever Olympic football gold when he sunk the winning penalty in the shootout.

Barcelona and Neymar staged the greatest comeback in football history on March 9th, 2017, winning the home leg 6-1 against Paris Saint-Germain after coming back from a 4-0 deficit. As the game went into injury time, Neymar assisted Sergi Roberto for the game-winner after converting a penalty kick and a superb free kick. Neymar was the star of the show throughout.

The signing of Neymar from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain for $ 200 million on 3 August 2017 made headlines since he became the most expensive footballer ever.

Neymar’s transfer to France was criticised by some, but the Brazilian has excelled since arriving, forming effective striking partnerships with teammates Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani. In his 26 appearances with PSG, he has 27 goals and 17 assists.

Negative aspects

Neymar was on fire for Brazil at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, but a knee to the back from Zuniga in the quarterfinal versus Colombia resulted in the striker breaking his spine.

He was out for the remainder of the World Cup, and his position as talisman for Brazil was highlighted when the squad was thrashed 7-1 by Germany in the semi-finals, with Germany going on to win the trophy.
