NZ vs ENG: “Australians Will Challenge Harry Brook With The Short Ball”- Geoffrey Boycott On Harry Brook’s Weakness

England Cricket Team made an astounding comeback as they scored 315-3 in 65 overs after being reduced to 21-3. Harry Brook continued his dominance as the right-handed batter scored an unbeaten  184 runs in 169 balls where he struck 24 fours & 5 sixes. The duo of Harry Brook & Joe Root played their roles smartly where Root toiled the bowlers and on the other end, Brook was in beast mode.

New Zealand skipper Tim Southee perhaps would be regretting his decision of opting to bowl first. England still have got their flamboyant skipper Ben Stokes waiting in the wings. The new ball is still 15 overs away and Tim Southee would be worried as at the moment Harry Brook is looking unstoppable.

Geoffrey Boycott on Harry Brook

Geoffrey Boycott wrote in his Telegraph column and pointed out Harry Brook’s weakness.

“I feel this summer the Australians will challenge him with the short ball. He instinctively hooks up and with the extra pace and quality in their seamers hooking up can be a ‘getting out’ shot.” said Geoffrey Boycott.

“Against New Zealand he played on hooking Neil Wagner, who has no great pace anymore. Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc are faster and even Josh Hazlewood gets awkward bounce.” he added.

Harr Brook an Asset

Harry Brook had come into the Test setup as a replacement for Jonny Bairstow for South Africa Tests in 2022. The batter in a short span of time has become an inseparable part of the team. As mentioned by Geoffrey Boycott, Harry Brook will have to work on short deliveries as there are ‘n’ chances that the Aussies may use a short ball barrage.

ECB will have to carefully monitor Harry Brook’s workload as after New Zealand Test, the batter will have a gruelling IPL 2023 season where this time there are a lot of doubleheaders & non-stop action. It would be interesting to see whether the Test cricketers like Jonny Bairstow, Harry Brook, and Sam Curran leave IPL in the middle for national duties as Ben Stokes has hinted that players will have to skip some part of IPL for Ireland Test & Ashes 2023.
