NZ vs ENG: Watch – Joe Root Hits Six With Remarkable Reverse Scoop At The Basin Reserve

Former England captain Joe Root has been in excellent form in the longer format of the game, as he scored his 29th Test century in the second match of the two-match series against New Zealand at the Basin Reserve in Wellington. Joe Root, known for his unorthodox shots, entertained the crowd with his reverse scoop shots in his 153-run innings.

The 32-year-old scored his 14th 150-plus run of his career to help England reach a mammoth total before Ben Stokes declared their first innings at 435 runs for 8 wickets on the second day of the second Test on Saturday. Watch: Commentators Astounded By Joe Root’s Sixth

Root had the crowd on their feet after only 10 deliveries on Day 2 when he reverse scooped the ball off Tim Southee for a six. The commentators were shocked to see Root play outrageous shots against the Blackcaps pacer early in the session.

“When it works like that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it,” the commentator said after Root hit a six off Tim Southee’s bowling over the slip cordon for a boundary.

New Zealand opted to bowl first in the second match after losing the series opener at Mount Maunganui by 267 runs. The hosts made two changes to their line-up, with Will Young and Matt Henry replacing Scott Kuggeleijn and Blair Tickner. The visitors decided to stick with the same XI that was used in the first Test.

After the declaration, England struck in the first over as James Anderson dismissed Devon Conway for a duck. Anderson has been brilliant in the series and picked up three early wickets, while Jack Leach took three wickets to break New Zealand’s middle batting order. The Blackcaps finished with a score of 138/7 at stumps on Day 2.
