The hard-hitting batter Azam Khan played one of his most memorable knocks and fell short of his well-deserved century by three runs against the Quetta Gladiators in the eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023. Azam Khan’s outstanding performance helped Islamabad United beat the Quetta Gladiators by 63 runs at the National Stadium in Karachi on February 24.

The right-handed batsman scored 97 off 42 balls with nine fours and eight sixes to help his team reach a mammoth total of 220 in the allotted 20 overs. The swashbuckling batsman started the innings slowly and gained momentum as Islamabad entered the death overs. The United batters scored 143 in the last 10 overs, and the last five overs went for 92 runs.

The wicketkeeper-batter came to the crease while Islamabad was struggling at 43/3 in the seventh over. Azam scored his fifty in just 29 balls, launching his assault on the Quetta bowlers, and patted his chest and pointed towards his father, who was sitting in the Quetta dugout, as a sign of respect after reaching his half-century. Moin reacted by applauding the fiery knock.

My Father Is My Biggest Inspiration – Azam Khan

After the match, Azam Khan said that he appreciated his innings and encouraged him to continue his good performance. Azam credited his father for making him mentally strong and helping him fight back against criticism.

“When I met him after the match, he praised my innings and asked me to continue performing well. My father is my biggest inspiration. He made me mentally so strong and always backed me to perform well despite all the odds. He told me about the criticism and helped me fight against it. I hope I will keep making him proud,” Azam Khan said.
