Ireland fast bowler Josh Little has been ruled out of the remainder of the eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) due to a hamstring injury sustained while representing the Pretoria Capitals during the inaugural edition of the SA20 tournament in South Africa.
The 23-year-old, who was set to play for the Multan Sultans in the PSL, has returned home for treatment and rehabilitation. The left-arm seamer became the first Irish player to be picked in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction after defending champions Gujarat Titans signed him for Rs 4.4 crore in December.

Mark Rausa, Head of Sport Science, Physiotherapy, and Medical Services for Cricket Ireland, confirmed that Josh Little reported some tightness in his hamstring towards the end of his time in the SA20 league. Rausa said Josh will remain in Dublin to complete rehabilitation, strength and conditioning, and workload management to prepare for the IPL and international matches.
“Josh reported experiencing some tightness in his hamstring towards the end of his time in the SA20 League. After reporting this to medical staff at Pretoria Capitals, he was sent for an ultrasound scan that was inconclusive. Out of an abundance of caution, Josh decided to return home for further tests and treatment with the Cricket Ireland medical team.”

“An MRI scan showed no significant injury in the hamstring, but he will remain in Dublin to complete a course of rehab, strength and conditioning and bowling workload management in preparation for the Indian Premier League (IPL) beginning the end of March, and a subsequent busy period of International cricket for Ireland. Due to this, he will therefore not take any part in the Pakistan Super League as originally planned.”
Ireland will play Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in March and April 2023. Their first series will be in Bangladesh, followed by a series against Sri Lanka. Josh Little has been left out of the Test squad due to franchise commitments and will only play in limited-overs matches.
