Former Pakistan cricketers have criticised Azam’s fitness, saying the young wicketkeeper-batter should work on losing weight to make it into the team. Azam Khan has dominated in T20 leagues around the world, but has been kept out of national selection due to his fitness. The batter said he is not worried about criticism of his fitness as he is more focused on his performances.
The hard-hitting batter helped Islamabad United beat the Quetta Gladiators by 63 runs in the eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023 at the National Stadium in Karachi on February 24. The right-handed batsman scored 97 runs off 42 balls with nine fours and eight sixes to help his team reach a mammoth total of 220 runs in 20 overs.

My Performance Is In Front Of Everyone – Azam Khan
Speaking in the post-match press conference, Azam Khan said that he is more focused on his batting and that the selectors will decide whether to pick him or not, as the selections are not in his hands.
“My fitness has always been great. My aim is to keep performing consistently. I rate my performances more [than fitness]. I don’t bother about negativity. As far as selection is concerned, it is the selectors’ call if they don’t want to select me. My performance is in front of everyone,” Azam Khan said.

Azam credited his father for making him mentally strong and helping him fight back against criticism.
“When I met him after the match, he praised my innings and asked me to continue performing well. My father is my biggest inspiration. He made me mentally so strong and always backed me to perform well despite all the odds. He told me about the criticism and helped me fight against it. I hope I will keep making him proud,” Azam Khan said.
