Robinho Biography

Stay tuned as we look at Robinho’s biography as one of the best and most skilled footballers of his generation in this SportMob post.

Robson de Souza Santos, best known by his nickname Robinho, is a Brazilian striker who was born on January 25, 1984, in Sao Vicente. Pele dubbed him his “heir,” and he was found by Pele, who brought him to Santos FC at the age of 12 in 1996.

Robinho promptly won the national championship in his first professional season, in 2002. He continued with Santos until 2005, when he was sold to Real Madrid for 30 million euros. He won two La Liga titles (2006-2007 and 2007-2008) and a Supercopa de Espana with the Blancos (2008). He moved to Manchester City in the summer of 2008, for a fee of 42 million euros, but his time in England proved to be disappointing.

He transferred to AC Milan for 18 million euros in 2010, after a brief loan spell at Santos. He lasted in Italy for four years, winning the Serie A (2010-2011) and Supercoppa Italiana (2011) in his first season, but his form declined in the following years. In 2014, he returned to Santos on loan before joining Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande.

In 2016, he played for Atlético Mineiro, and from 2018 until August 2020, he was with Sivasspor and Istanbul Başakşehir in Turkey.

In 2003, he joined the Brazilian national team. On July 13, 2003, Robinho made his international debut for Brazil in a match against Mexico. Brazil was defeated 1-0 in the match. On February 9, 2005, he scored his first goal for the national team against Hong Kong.

He has also won two Confederations Cups with the Brazilian national team (2005 and 2009), as well as participating in one Gold Cup (2003) and two World Cups (2006 and 2010).

Robinho Early Life

As a child, he was introduced to football by playing with tennis balls. At the age of six, he was seen playing football on the street by an observer from Beira-Mar, a futsal training school. He joined Portuários, a 5-a-side football team, at the age of nine, and was subsequently seen by Santos, who initially featured him in their 5-a-side formation before deciding to move him to the club’s youth 11-a-side football team in 1996.

Pelé was one of the managers of Santos’ youth programme during this time. Pele first noticed Robinho during a training session in 1999, and immediately recognised him as a little boy. He continued to follow him around continuously, eventually deciding to move him to a sort of guesthouse divided into dorms within the Santos stadium. Robinho won the Paulista Under-17 championship in 2001, his final season with Santos’ junior team.
