Sergio Ramos Garcia is a former Spanish national team defender and Real Madrid player. He joined Paris Saint-Germain in 2021 after leaving Real Madrid. Seville, Spain native Ramos was born on March 30, 1986 and is widely regarded as one of the game’s best modern day defenders.

Ramos, the captain of Spain’s national team and a defender for Paris Saint-Germain, is well-known for his aerial threat and in-box tackles. In 385 games, he has scored 52 goals.


In spite of being a centre back, he can also play right back. His career began at Sevilla FC, where he went through the club’s youth system until making his La Liga debut on 1 February 2004 in a 0–1 away defeat to Deportivo La Corua in the top division.


In 2004, Ramos was a star performer for the Spanish U-21 team. Ramos made his senior team debut against China the following year, when he was just 18 years and 361 days old. As a result, he became Spain’s youngest ever debutant in almost 55 years.

Against San Marino in a 2006 FIFA World Cup qualification match, Ramos scored his first two international goals for his country.

Ramos has 151 international appearances under his belt. He surpassed Germany’s Lukas Podolski to become Europe’s youngest 100-game player.

Career in a Club

Ramos played 31 games for Sevilla in the 2004–05 season, helping the club finish sixth and reach the UEFA Cup quarterfinals. Real Madrid purchased Ramos from Barcelona for €27 million in 2005. The Merengues lost 2–3 against Olympiacos FC in the UEFA Champions League group stage on December 6, 2005, when he scored his first goal for the Merengues.

Despite Real Madrid played for lengthy periods of time with just nine men in the Spanish Supercup match against Valencia CF, Ramos scored a crucial goal.
