Indian Cricket Team was given a target of 279 runs on a flat deck. The Men in Blue had a shaky start where they lost both the openers in the power-play overs itself. It looked as if South Africa once again would dominate like the 1st ODI where they had dried runs from both ends.
Shreyas Iyer & Ishan Kishan were involved in a mammoth 161 runs partnership. The batters made sure that they are not allowing South African bowlers to settle by any means. Ishan Kishan unleashed the attack on the opposition and most importantly he was playing smart cricket.
Ishan Kishan Misses Out on Century
The left-handed batter was smashing the bowlers all around the park. In the 35th over Fortuin bowled a short ball where Ishan thought of whacking it over deep mid-wicket but Reeza Hendricks took a stunner. The left-handed batter scored 93 runs in 84 balls where he smashed 4 fours and 7 sixes. The batter had shown immense patience in the starting overs which was quite unique. The score at the fall of his wicket was 209-3 as only 70 runs required to square the series.
Clinical Performance from Youngsters
In the absence of star players, the likes of Shreyas Iyer has made a statement that he is still one of the best. The right-handed batter has been in complete control of the run-chase and is on the brink of the century. Shreyas is often considered as the replacement for Virat Kohli as he has similar traits.
Ishan Kishan would be dejected as a century would have been special. Ishan & Shreyas were quite ruthless after getting their eye in as they were dominating the terms. India would be hoping to win the match in not less than 6 overs as a short partnership of 30 runs can do wonders for the team.
