Watch: Shahbaz Ahmed Picks Maiden ODI Wicket, Gets Janneman Malan LBW In Second IND Vs SA ODI

Bengal all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed recorded his maiden international wicket in the ongoing second ODI between India and South Africa as he got Janneman Malan LBW on his ODI debut at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on October 9, 2022.

South Africa came into this match with a win in the first match in Lucknow by 9 runs. However, this time, Keshav Maharaj came out for toss as South Africa captain, and revealed that Temba Bavuma and Tabraiz Shamsi were missing from the XI due to illness. Reeza Hendricks and Bjorn Fortuin were included in the XI to replace them, while Anrich Nortje came in for Lungi Ngidi.

For India, Ravi Bishnoi and Ruturaj Gaikwad were benched while Washington Sundar came in and Shahbaz Ahmed made his ODI debut for India. South Africa won the toss and chose to bat first.

India had a good start to their innings, as Mohammed Siraj got rid of Quinton de Kock for 5 runs after he was hit for a four off the first ball of the match. Then Janneman Malan and Reeza Hendricks consolidated the innings a bit by adding 37 runs for the second wicket.

However, Shikhar Dhawan shook things up by brining Shahbaz Ahmed into the attack, along with Avesh Khan bowling at the other end. The South African batters found things hot to handle as pressure was built from both ends.

Ahmed bowled brilliantly for a couple of overs keeping a tab on the batters and not letting them tee off his bowling, despite making his debut in this match. After giving 13 runs in his first three overs, Shahbaz finally managed to pick his maiden ODI wicket.

On the fifth ball of the 10th over, the left-armer floated a slow ball which beat Malan in his defense and the ball struck the back pad. While the on-field umpire gave Malan not out, Shikhar Dhawan was convinced by Sanju Samson to go for a review.

The replays showed that no bat was involved and the ball pitched in line and was going to hit the stumps, giving India a successful review and Janneman Malan walked back for 25 runs.
