West Indies and Scotland go head to head in Hobart in match 3 of the ICC T20 World Cup qualifiers on October 17, Monday. The two-time T20 World Cup champions are having to play the qualifiers this year after they failed to qualify directly. The Windies will play three games Scotland (October 17), Zimbabwe (October 19) and Ireland (October 21).
This is the first time that the Windies are playing in the T20 World Cup without Chris Gayle. The team is also missing the likes of Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and Dwayne Bravo.
Scotland played in the qualifiers of the last T20 World Cup and qualified for the Super 12 stage. Namibia also qualified as did Sri Lanka who will have to play in the qualifiers this year as well. The Scotts defeated Bangladesh, UAE and PNG to qualify for the Super 12 stage the last time.
The tournament begins on October 16 with the qualifier round matches. In the opening game, Sri Lanka and Namibia will take on each other. There are two groups in the qualifier round of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. They are Group A and Group B. In group A, there are 4 teams namely Sri Lanka, Namibia, UAE, and the Netherlands. In group B, there are 4 teams- West Indies, Zimbabwe, Scotland, and Ireland.
During the qualifier round of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, a total of 12 matches will take place. Group A teams will play one match with the other teams in the group. Similarly, Group B teams will play one each against the other teams of the group.
Since there are 4 teams in each group, each team will play 3 matches during the qualifier round. After the end of the qualifier round, the top two teams in Group A and Group B points table will qualify for the super 12 round. Two teams will join Group 1 of the super 12 round while the 2 other teams will join Group 2.
